March 2008Yes, its been a while since you heard from us! This year has got off to a flying start and all of our staff have been working hard to ensure that every visitor gets top notch service: whether it be a wedding for 100 or an intimate dinner for two! Our January Seafood dinner was a great success and the kitchen brigade discovered a new enthusiasm for seafood and have produced some fantastic dishes since. At Wild Cattle Creek the tempo is starting to rise as we commence the final leg of the vintage. The final picking is almost done and the winemaking process is well underway. Our new Sunday breakfasts are proving to be popular with both locals and visitors. They have enjoyed the mornings out on the balcony dining on Daniel's fantastic berry pancakes while reading the paper and sipping latte! Breakfast will continue throughout winter: the balcony will not be so appealing, but maybe the open fires will be even more tempting. Come and try it for yourself! Dining in the Vines![]() Some very lucky couples have enjoyed our special Dining in the Vines package this summer. A romantic table set up in the Gazebo just for 2 with candlelight, relaxing views over the lily pond, the vines and the hills, wine and a personalised 4 course menu. Some chose to combine it with an overnight stay in Merlot Cottage. That is the ultimate get away! Keep it in mind for your next special occasion. New StaffMatt Wood is the latest apprentice to join the kitchen team. Matt is not quite a "new addition" as he has been with us since early last year as a Kitchenhand while he completed year 12. He eagerly took up the offer to join the team as he starts to pave his way to being a successful and promising young Chef. Jana Fuller joined the Front of House team in the midst of the Christmas rush. Jana takes on the position of Functions Supervisor. From a 5 star Hotel and Resort background, Jana has much to offer in ensuring that our reputation continues to grow for both superb weddings and functions. Chef's Table Dinner #7 – Pie & Beer Friday 30th May 7pmDoes not sound like a "Chef's Dinner"? WRONG! George has assured us his sensational pie and pastry creations will have you talking for weeks afterwards. From canapés to desserts, this dinner will be interesting! We have decided to offer it with a specially selected beer list (with the assistance of Colin Penrose, owner of the Brewers Choice shop in Woori Yallock). Of course, our regular wine list will also be available. As one of our regular Chef's Table diners comments: "What a fantastic unique evening of culinary seafood and wines. The detail and experience left one proud and privileged to be associated with Rustic Charm. Every time we walk away with either a new wine…or another great way to prepare food." We hope we are not giving you too many ideas otherwise you'll be able to do it all at home! $50 per person – 4 course dinner and a bag of goodies! |

Plug and PlayIf you play an instrument and want to enjoy a fun "jam session" join Mainstream on the first Friday night of every month at Rustic Charm. Following on from their regular Sunday performances, these nights are about providing musicians with the stage and equipment to perform. All you need is to bring is your instrument and yourself, plug it in and play with them. Daniel has prepared a "tapas" style menu so you can enjoy some casual tasty food and a glass of wine in a relaxed and friendly environment. Vintage ReportThanks to the high temperatures experienced during February and March, harvest came early this year. The last of our fruit was picked the Wednesday before Easter. I'm sure you all saw the bird netting over the vineyard, though bird pressure was actually quite low this year which meant we didn't need to net our main vineyard extensively. As with last year, it has been a very dry growing season. Our dams are both at ¼ capacity and it was certainly challenging at times keeping water up to vines. The white varieties cropped higher than last year, while the red varieties cropped slightly on the lighter side. We've had the winery report back already on some terrific fruit characters, in particular the Sauvignon Blanc (2008), so look out for that later this year! In the Cellar Door, we still have some clean skin Merlot 2006 stock available for $99/doz, and the Cabernet/Merlot 2003 for $50 for ½ doz, which is running out the door. Some great bargains to take advantage of! Preferred Supplier- Events with StyleAt Rustic Charm we work closely with a number of other businesses to ensure that your special event runs smoothly.
