On Monday 9th March 80 guests attended a Gala Dinner at Rustic Charm restaurant in the Yarra Valley to raise money for the local volunteer teams who have given so much during the recent bushfires.
Wandin, Seville and Gruyere CFA crews, and the Help For Wildlife team benefitted from the night. Each organisation will be presented with a $1700 cheque next week.
The night was hosted by local comedian Michael Connell accompanied by Fat Cats who had guests dancing the night away after dining on a specially prepared Yarra Valley feast featuring many local ingredients. Owner Jeynelle Forrest organised the night as a way to raise funds for the local volunteers: many of whom have been longstanding customers. "It was our way to say thank you while supporting our local suppliers" she said.
Many items were auctioned to raise the funds including an AC/DC limited Edition photo montage, a Labrador puppy, Paintball games, photographic packages, vouchers, local produce, wine and beer all donated by local businesses and families. Even the staff donated their time on what is normally their night off.
Owner, Jeynelle Forrest, said "The night was made a success by the local businesses and all those who attended, even though some of them had been effected by the disaster over the last few weeks."
Denise Garratt, Director of Help for Wildlife, was ecstatic with the donation. "This has made my day. It will purchase a much needed humidicrib".
Her dedicated team of volunteers are still working long hours retrieving injured wildlife and caring for those that have been treated. She now faces the new challenge of keeping herself and her team in check emotionally and physically.
